Moving Image Arts

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN AT GCSE LEVEL?

This new qualification from CEA is the first of its kind in the UK.

Students work on a range of creative, critical and technical tasks. These include planning and creating moving image products. This qualification builds on students’ introduction to the moving image at Key Stage 3. It helps them to progress to further study and practice at GCE level.

Studying this specification, gives students opportunities to:

  • develop an understanding of film language in both theory and practice;

  • develop ideas by investigating and experimenting with film-making techniques and processes;

  • develop the ability to manage resources and equipment in relation to film production and to produce moving image artworks:

  • develop technical competence in using film-making techniques; and evaluate the effectiveness of their practice as film-makers.
     

Summary of Components

  • Component 1: Critical Understanding of Creative and Technical Moving Image Production – Compulsory (1 hr 30 min) online examination.
     

  • Component 2: Acquisition of Skills in Moving Image Production – Compulsory controlled assessment tasks (storyboarding; camera and editing; sound; and animation.)

 

  • Component 3: Planning and Making a Moving Image Product – Compulsory controlled assessment portfolio, Students produce a film or an animation portfolio and a completed moving image product.
