Sustaining Improvement Inspection

In May 2017 Markethill High School underwent a Sustaining Improvement Inspection by the Education and Training Inspectorate for Northern Ireland (ETI)

Sustaining Improvement Inspections are reserved for schools which were originally judged as ‘Very Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ in 2013.

The key findings of the May 2017 Inspection are as follows:

The proportion of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Mathematics, at grades A* to C is significantly above the average for similar schools;
All of the lessons observed during the inspection were highly effective in promoting the pupils’ learning;
The performance of boys is now better than at any time in the school’s history;
The outcomes achieved by the pupils at Key Stage 4 have risen steadily;
All staff have worked collegially and assiduously to enhance the quality of learning and teaching through the development and consistent implementation of a school-designed, research-informed approach to classroom practice;
The pupils reported that they feel very safe, happy and secure in school;
Markethill High School continues to demonstrate a high level of capacity for sustained improvement in the interest of all the learners.
