WHAT WILL YOU LEARN AT GCSE LEVEL?

All pupils in Year 11 and 12 are allocated a number of periods of RE per week since the study of this subject is compulsory until school leaving age.  At present pupils in Year 11 have the following options:-

11A1 - 11A3  GCSE Religious Studies Full Course

11A4 – 11A5  GCSE Religious Studies Short Course

All the Religious Studies courses offered are designed to develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity.  They aim to challenge pupils to examine their own life stances, develop opinions on moral issues - all very relevant to growing up in a world of confusing moral standards.  Pupils are encouraged to respect the beliefs, values and attitudes of others.

Pupils following Full Course will study 2 modules over 2 years.
Pupils following Short Course will study 1 module over 2 years.

Content

Modules will be chosen by specialist staff from the following:

  • Christianity through a study of the Gospel of Matthew.

  • An Introduction to Christian Ethics.

Assessment

Short Course:  1 externally assessed paper lasting 1 hour 30 minutes.
Full Course:  2 externally assessed papers, each lasting 1 hour 30 minutes.

For both courses there is one tier of entry targeting grades in the range A* - G.
There is no controlled assessment in either Full or Short Course Religious Studies.
