Agriculture

Agriculture and Land Use is offered both as a GCSE and as a BTEC Option at Key Stage 4.

Art and Design

Art and Design is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10 and is an option at GCSE Level. 

Business Studies

Business Studies is taught as an option at GCSE Level.

Child Care

At GCSE Level, Home Economics: Child Development is offered as an option.

Design and Technology

Technology is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10.

At GCSE Level there are a number of routes pupils can choose, including Graphic Products as a separate GCSE Design and Technology option.

Drama

Drama is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10 and is an option at GCSE Level.

English

All Key Stage 3 pupils receive a minimum of 3 hours English per week, and all pupils study GCSE English Language at Key Stage 4.

French

French is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10 and is an option at GCSE Level.

Geography

Geography is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10 and is an option at GCSE Level.

Graphic Products

Graphic Products is taught as an option at GCSE Level.

History

History is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10 and is an option at GCSE Level.

Home Economics

Home Economics is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10. At GCSE Level Home Economics: Food is an option. Pupils can also study Home Economics: Child Development at GCSE Level.

ICT

ICT is taught in Year 8 to all pupils.

In Years 9 and 10 pupils develop their ICT skills through their subjects. This is co-ordinated at a whole-school level to ensure that pupils progress effectively in their use of ICT.

ICT can be taken as an option at GCSE Level in Years 11 and 12.

Learning for Life and Work

Learning for Life and Work is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -12 and is compulsory at GCSE Level as a qualification.
Learning for Life and Work comprises of Employability, Personal Development and Citizenship.
Whilst Home Economics also comes under the Learning for Life and Work umbrella, it is taught separately in Years 8-10 , and as a specific GCSE option in Years 11 and 12

Maths and Further Maths

Maths is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10 and is a compulsory subject at GCSE Level. Some pupils can choose Further Maths as a GCSE option.

Motor Vehicle and Road User Studies

Motor Vehicle and Road User Studies (MVRUS) is taught as an option at GCSE Level.

Moving Image Arts

Moving Image Arts is an Option at GCSE Level.

Music

Music is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10 and is an option at GCSE Level.

Occupational St. & BTEC

Some Markethill High School pupils have the opportunity to attend the Southern Regional College in Armagh on a Friday to study for a BTEC Award or an Occupational Studies qualification. 

Physical Education

Physical Education is a statutory part of the curriculum in Years 8-12.
It is also a specific option at GCSE Level.
 

Religious Education

Religious Education is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10. At GCSE Level pupils either undertake Full Course or Short Course GCSE.

Science

Science is taught to all pupils in Years 8 -10. At GCSE Level Pupils either undertake Double Award or Single Award Science.

Spanish

Spanish is taught to all classes in Years 9 and 10. Pupils can then choose it as a GCSE option.
