The specification will introduce candidates to various aspects of the world of business and encourage them to consider the impact of recent changes within the business climate.

The recent advances in the use of ICT have given businesses access to a wealth of information, enabled more efficient communication and reduced the time and effort required for many administrative tasks.  The course is designed to incorporate the working of business activity and the practical organisation of an office environment.  Furthermore, the course enables students to grasp the necessary computer skills required to operate in any business or home situation. 


Specification Structure

The subject content is divided into six theory topic areas, whilst the practical components make up the major focus of the course.  The practical aspects consist of the following:  Word processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Letter Writing, Web Page Design, Graphics and Display work.


Tier of Entry

There is one single tier of entry which allows students access to all grades ranging from A* - G


Examination Requirements

Candidates will be required to undertake two papers.

Paper 1  (35%) – this paper examines the practical aspects of the course (1hr 30min)
Paper 2  (40%) – this is a short theory written test (1hr)


Coursework. (25%) A compulsory requirement is that each candidate will complete a controlled assessment.  One task from a range of tasks released by examining body.  The controlled task is internally assessed.
